Description: Building officials and contractors want to avoid damage to hardened cast-in-place concrete placed during cold weather. Delayed setting and strength gain or early age freezing of freshly placed concrete can adversely affect the hardened concrete. Hear about cold weather definitions, building code requirements, specifications, cold weather mix designs, protection, and concrete temperature monitoring. Codes addressed will include the International Building Code (IRC), International Residential Code (IRC), ACI 318 Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete, and ACI 332 Residential Code Requirements for Structural Concrete. Also, code requirements versus common practice will be compared and discussed.
