Engineering Durable Concrete Structures: Repair, Strengthening, and Ground Improvement Webinar (Sponsored by MAPEI)
Concrete structures—whether historic landmarks or everyday infrastructure—face inevitable challenges over their service life. This presentation will explore a range of structural strengthening methods and concrete repair techniques, with a focus on how engineers can select and implement the right solutions for both new construction and rehabilitation projects. Attendees will gain insight from real-world case studies, including the rehabilitation of Notre Dame Cathedral, preservation efforts at the Roman Colosseum, and practical applications for parking garages, bridges and powerplants.
In addition to repair and strengthening, the session will address the critical roles of waterproofing and soil stabilization for ground improvement and the prevention of structural failures.

Presented by:
Rick Ellingson, P.E., has ten years of experience working for manufacturers of Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) systems, structural pile jacketing systems and corrosion mitigation technologies for concrete structures. He is the Structural Strengthening – Business Development Leader at MAPEI. Rick is a licensed professional engineer and a NACE-certified Cathodic Protection Technician (CP2). Rick is also an active member of the ACI 440 Strengthening Committee and ICRI 330 Strengthening Committees.
Tanner Murt has held multiple roles within MAPEI’s Underground Technology Team (UTT) supporting complex infrastructure projects across North America. He is currently the Business Development Manager in the Western U.S. Tanner holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from West Virginia University and is an NCEES-certified Engineer-in-Training.
